Virginia Zeani, Legendary Romanian/Italian Prima Donna Assoluta, will present two great stars of the Romanian Opera UP CLOSE & PERSONAL at NSU Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale on February 26, 2015 at 7:30 pm.
This is a rare opportunity to witness history in the making as one of the the greatest singers of the 20th century introduces the formidable husband and wife operatic team, Florina Maris Hinsu, dramatic soprano, and Florin Maris Hinsu, baritone, to the American public.
Madame Zeani made her debut as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata in Bologna, Italy in 1948 at 22 years old and went on to sing in all the major opera houses and on all the greatest stages of the world. In a professional performing career of over 30 years, she sang 71 roles, from La Traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor to Aida and Tosca. After retiring from the stage, she become known as one of the leading voice teachers of the world at Indiana University School of Music, where she taught for 24 years.
Today, Virginia Zeani lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, where, at 89 years old, she still is quite active teaching the bel canto style and repertory from the comfort of her beautiful home.
