Vocalist Jackie Ryan will open the Venetian Arts Society’s Up Close and Personal fall concert season with “An Evening of Jazz Standards and Spanish Romances,” Thursday evening, January 22, 2015 at 7:30 pm in Horvitz Auditorium at the NSU Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale (1 East Las Olas Blvd.). Themultilingual vocalist’s albums have long been atop jazz charts, and she is a regular on the London music scene.
“Vocalist Jackie Ryan arrived on the ever-changing jazz scene at the dawning of the new millennium, deriving a classic, yet exotic style and sound,” the VAS writes. “Of Mexican, Irish, French and Spanish descent, Ryan throws her background it into her music. She sings in Spanish, English and Portuguese, and echoes of Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday can be heard.”
